Introduction
Have you ever noticed, just as you hang some Piece of Art,
say a new Painting, or 3-dimensional Piece; and for some
unexplained reason …
it just feels
right. It looks
right! Or, perhaps in someone else’s home, someone whom
you admire for their sense of style; you see a great Piece
of Art, and it grabs your attention. You love the piece.
It looks fabulous!! “Well yes,” you say to yourself, “I
have had that feeling."
It may not be the Piece.
It may very well be
where it is hung!
How it is lit! How it is framed. That is what this little
handbook is all about. The
RULES.
As in physics or gardening or anything else,
there
are RULES.
They can be
learned. You can acquire this talent. That way every Piece
of Art that you hang in your home; Original Painting,
cheap little Poster, or wonderful Bronze Statue will be
right. It will feel right. It will be shown to its best
advantage. You will no longer be guessing.
You will know!!
It actually is easy.
We will be covering, the most important
aspects of hanging your Art exactly right. I am not going
to give you a crash course in Fine Arts with all those
rules of color & design. I do not think you want or need
all that routine in order to make ‘house beautiful’. We
are following the kiss method;
KEEP IT SIMPLE,
STUPID. I will
first & foremost teach you to trust your own instincts and
why…. with infallible logic. You will come away with
renewed respect for what you already know.
Then I will teach you the 2 or 3 (or10?
possibly) times when you should listen to a professional
Custom Framer… so as not to go wrong. At the end of this
little book you will know how to hang the Art in your
home, and be proud of it, sure that you are right.
We will be talking about; the right Art,
the right color choices for your type of home, your life
style and your climate. We will be talking about lighting:
The most
important thing… is lighting!!.
Right after you have chosen
the exactly right mats and moldings and the perfect glass
(yes, many choices, here) you need to choose
where to hang it
and chief among
those considerations is
placing it in the
right light. You must not be like all those
other people who buy a wonderful Piece of Art, then take
it home & and hang it in a dark corner behind a hanging
plant.
They spend months, sometimes years,
wondering why no one ever comments on how beautiful the
Piece is.
Even themselves; their soul does not sing upon walking by,
because they cannot see it,
certainly not see it to its best advantage. There is no
light directly on the Piece.
We will talk about Hanging your Art in
just exactly the right space in your home… and
how to recognize that right shape
of space in your home where
each piece belongs. We will talk about what kind of Art
and why,… that you will likely be most pleased with: for
each Room in your Home.
We will discuss buying Art on vacation and
the best way to get it home without damage. How about
storing your Art?
Heated or air conditioned storage, always…
it’s gotta be…., sorry! None of this change of
temperatures, ever: bad news for Fine Art; if framed or
even if simply shrink-wrapped. Moving your Fine Art
Pieces… across town or across the Country. This section
will include ‘First Aid for Frames’… with several ways to
save real money, here.
We will touch on making the furnishings
blend with the room, no matter what kind of a home you
have chosen or ‘are saddled with’… how to live through the
“saddled with” and actually make it charming. In addition,
how to use Found Objects…. to display them eloquently; not
as old junk picked up in an antiquated barn sale … long
long ago… (Possibly the day you fell in love?!) . When you
finish with this little book you’ll feel confident of
your own
ability to make choices that truly fit your taste and your
needs. You need
not read the whole thing… we have the book sectioned off
by Problem type, or look under Room Choices.
